COVID-19 continues to affect training organizations and licensing agencies alike. Today we remind everyone that licensing renewals in New York State are extended per the Governor’s Executive Order.
ANNUAL TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
The number of people found without the required training for renewal is surprising. As a reminder, here are your requirements as a Licensed Security Person in New York:
Unarmed Security
- One 8 Hour Annual Training Course Every Calendar Year (January 1st through December 31st.
- Meaning, before your two-year renewal, you must have two Annual Training Courses completed.
Armed Security
- Armed Security Officers must Receive the Armed Annual Training Course Every Calendar Year. (January 1st through December 31st.
- Again, meaning, before your two-year renewal, you must have two Armed Annual Training Courses completed.
- The two armed courses are in addition to the two unarmed annual courses.
EXECUTIVE ORDER – EXTENDING EXPIRATION DATE OF LICENSE
Effective March 27, 2020, according to Executive Order 202.11, “any license issued by the Division of Licensing Services or New York State Athletic Commission, that expires after that date, shall remain in effect until September 5, 2020.”
Any license holder that is eligible to renew and does not need the extension is encouraged to do so; all other license holders may rely on the above extensions. Please note licensees who submit a renewal after the expiration date printed on their license but by September 5, 2020, will see a change in their license term dates upon renewal; however, our office will maintain a record of the EO extension and your license will be considered continuous licensure for this period.

Enter the required search information. Select Security Guard from the Drop Down Menu.
Confirm Your Name and/or Your ID Are Correct
Check Your License Expiration Date and the Training Courses Recorded.
